Tumble down the rabbit hole for the final chapter of larger-than-life plant blooms inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in Atlanta’s Urban Oasis.

Alice’s Wonderland features 38 larger-than-life sculptures in seven installations inspired by Lewis Carroll’s timeless tales, plus Shaggy Dog and the now-iconic Earth Goddess, two pieces in the Garden’s permanent collection from the 2013-14 exhibitions Imaginary Worlds: Plants Larger Than Life and A New Kingdom of Plant Giants.

Let imagination be your guide as you enter the Garden through giant Storybooks. Discover Alice spinning in a whirl of teacups and playing cards. Watch out for the Queen of Hearts and her Chess Set army as you greet the new Singing Flowers on your approach to the 27-foot-tall White Rabbit floating in the Skyline Garden, where you’ll also encounter the toothy grin of the Cheshire Cat

Imagine insects several feet tall climbing up rocks along a stream in the Gainesville Garden. Fear not! These larger-than-life animals and plants are among 21 sculptures that form the summer exhibit Forest Forms: Woodland Wonders.

Atlanta artist Huelani Mei has created the metal works to show the form, movement and rhythm she observes while enjoying the outdoors. The captivating, colorful sculptures, which include insects such as ants and bees, are made of powder-coated steel, range from 3 to 10 feet tall and will be staged throughout the Garden.

Reflected in Mei’s work is the joy and peace that nature brings her, and she hopes that sparks a moment of reflection and wonder in Garden guests. An accomplished artist, Mei received her degree in Sculpture and Fine Arts from Georgia State University and has her own fabrication shop, Hue Designs.

The exhibit will include interpretive signage for each sculpture, offering fun facts about the species depicted and creating an informative, fun experience for all ages.

This exhibition is created by Huelani Mei and produced by Elemental Exhibitions.

Legendary singer-songwriter Emmylou Harris returns to the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Gainesville on Sept. 12 for an encore performance celebrating the Garden’s 10th anniversary.

The 14-time Grammy Award winner last performed at the Gainesville Garden in 2015 during its inaugural concert in the Ivester Amphitheater, where its intimate outdoor setting and exceptional acoustics offer artists and guests an experience unlike any other.

“It’s truly an honor to have her here at any time, but having been the first artist to perform in our amphitheater really makes this show extremely special as we continue to celebrate our 10th anniversary,” Garden Director Mildred Fockele said.

Harris is known as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting as for her incomparably expressive singing. Admired throughout her career for her talent as an artist and song connoisseur, Harris shook up country radio in the 1970s when she established herself as the premiere songwriter of a generation, selling more than 15 million records and garnering her 14 Grammy Awards, three CMA Awards and four Americana Awards.

Discounted tickets go on sale to Garden members on May 21. General admission tickets will be available on May 28. Garden memberships are available at atlantabg.org/join.

The concert begins at 8 p.m., and gates open at 6 p.m. (5:30 p.m. for Platinum ticket holders). Seating is general admission, and cash bars and food purchases will be available.
